Stratum - A pop-up installation for projection mapping

Ed note - After a year off from blogging our meeting notes we’re bring them back to help keep everyone up to speed on what we’re currently up to.

After concluding our two new installations for SAM Lights and Redmond Lights (images coming soon) we spent the rest of the winter months exploring projection mapping. After experimenting with a variety of options we’ve decided to move forward with a physically installation that can be activated using projection.
As always our ultimate goal is to put something interactive in public space and getting a projection to interact with strangers in an environment we don’t control has been our chief challenge.

We’re calling this installation Stratum due to its layered experience (both figuratively and literally). We’ll be using mosquito netting in a series of layers to capture the light from a projector, the layered system creates an interesting repetition of elements while each one becomes blurrier and less distinct with each layer.
