Our next few meetups will be dedicated to exploring what we can do with projection mapping.
We will have a few projectors and laptops to experiment with but we’re suggesting everyone bring their own equipment (laptops, projectors, addressable LEDs, alternative software for art programming) if they have it.
This week we’ll be focusing on HeavyM as well as continuing to explore MadMapper. Both programs have free demos be downloaded for WIN or OSX

Rather than a class this is better thought of as a joint exercise where we’re all attempting to learn the limits of what we can do with these tools. We’ll do our best to bring in experts each week but be prepared to do some self-directed learning.
The goal of this series is three fold:
We’ll be working towards creating some sort of guerilla pop-up “backpack” type projection experience possibly using an inflatable.
To learn enough about these tools that we can more confidently craft proposals for future grants.
To explore potential upgrade possibilities to some of our existing interactive artwork (Bop Bags, Touche, etc)
For those who find the software side dry, the “pop-up” portion of this will provide some critical thinking opportunities. I.e. what are power solutions, what are display solutions, locations, concepts or reasoning for guerrilla projection, etc.
Design Nerds Meetups are always open to all and we welcome folks to feel free to jump in during the middle of a project.
Our meetings are held in Urban Artworks inside the Inscape Arts Building (815 Seattle Blvd S). Inscape is a controlled access structure, dial 009 at the callbox anytime after 6:50pm and someone will escort you in. Inscape is one block south of the International District Light Rail Station. Paid parking is available in the PFI parking lot off 6th Ave, however it is strongly suggested that you consider mass transit on game nights.
